GitHub Copilot computer use enters public preview
Event time 1 independent sourceEditorial score 75/100Updated here
The short version
GitHub added a computer-use public preview to Copilot CLI and the Copilot app on macOS and Windows. It can read app content, click, type, and navigate workflows across apps, with approval before app control and organization settings that can disable it.
What changed
Automation now reaches desktop software without an API, CLI, or MCP integration.
What it means for you
The announcement lists notification summaries, presentation updates, and desktop workflows as uses for people evaluating GUI automation.
CLI users can run /computer on and inspect status with /computer show. App users can enable it under Settings, Computer Use.
This remains a public preview. macOS requires Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions; availability does not override organization policy.
