GitHub retires four older models across Copilot experiences
The short version
GitHub deprecated Gemini 3.5 Flash, Gemini 3.6 Flash, Kimi K2.7 Code, and Claude Opus 4.7 in Copilot on October 2. It recommends Gemini 3.8 Flash, Kimi K3, and Claude Opus 5.5 as corresponding alternatives.
What changed
The retirement applies across Copilot Chat, inline edits, ask and agent modes, and code completions.
What it means for you
Update workflows to supported models; Enterprise administrators may need to enable alternatives through model policy settings.
Check model names in scripts and integrations, then verify the replacement is available under the organization policy. The official notice gives a migration map, not a comparative capability benchmark.
This is a change within GitHub Copilot. It does not establish that the same models are retired by their original providers. Event precision follows the official October 2 date.
