AWS opens OpenAI GPT-6 global cross-Region inference in five Asia Pacific Regions
The short version
AWS lets Bedrock callers in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Taipei use global cross-Region inference for OpenAI GPT-6 Sol and Luna; Astra is available from Singapore.
What changed
Bedrock adds GPT-6 inference profiles for specified Asia Pacific source Regions, with Converse, OpenAI-compatible APIs, and Codex CLI configuration.
What it means for you
Teams can initiate calls locally while Bedrock schedules capacity in supported commercial Regions and retains billing and monitoring in the source Region.
AWS says Amazon Bedrock now offers global cross-Region inference for OpenAI GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Taipei; GPT-6 Astra is available through this path from Singapore. This is an availability and integration change, not a guarantee that processing occurs in the source Region.
Callers pass an inference profile ID in place of a model ID. Bedrock selects a supported commercial Region for processing, while billing, quotas, CloudTrail, and CloudWatch remain in the Region where the request begins. AWS documents Converse, OpenAI Responses, OpenAI Chat Completions, and Codex CLI examples using amazon-bedrock-runtime.
Teams should activate applicable opt-in source Regions, update their SDK or CLI, and configure IAM/SCP permissions. Confirm current profile and Region support on the Bedrock model cards before deployment.
