Claude Opus 4.5
Claude Opus 4.5 is the previous Opus snapshot on Anthropic's live table. Rechecked 2026-08-17: docs.claude.com models overview still sells claude-opus-4-5 at $5 input / $25 output per 1M tokens and 200k context. The same page also lists Claude Opus 4.6 at the same $5 / $25 meter, and a separate Claude Opus 5 line. This page is not "Anthropic's most intelligent model" anymore.
Effort controls exist on current Claude docs, but they are not unique to Opus 4.5. Do not keep that exclusivity claim.
Key Features
- Still billed:
claude-opus-4-5remains a valid snapshot. - Same sticker as Opus 4.6 on the overview we opened: $5 / $25.
- 200k default context. 1M is a beta note for some 4+ models, not the printed default.
- Use newer pages for new work: Opus 4.6 or Opus 5, plus Claude Code for the terminal product.
Use Cases
- Pinned Opus 4.5 traffic that has not moved to 4.6.
- Comparisons against Sonnet 4.5 at $3 / $15.
- Research notes that must name the November 2025 snapshot.
Limitation: "65% fewer tokens" and other launch efficiency claims were not on the 2026-08-17 overview. We dropped them.

Getting Started
- Open the models overview.
- If you only need this snapshot, call
claude-opus-4-5. - If you are starting now, prefer Opus 4.6 unless a pin says otherwise.
- Recheck effort and 1M options on the current API page, not this historical card.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Opus 4.5 the smartest Claude?
Not on the current overview. Later Opus lines sit beside it.
Is it cheaper than Opus 4.6?
Not on the table we used. Both are $5 / $25.
Why keep this page?
Because the snapshot is still billed and people still search the 4.5 name.
Alternatives
- Claude Opus 4.6: Later snapshot, same meter on that table.
- Claude Opus 5: Newer high Claude line in this catalog.
- GPT-5.6 Sol: Closed OpenAI frontier.
Tips
- Do not invent a unique effort monopoly for 4.5.
- Keep 4.5 and 4.6 prices in the same sentence so readers see they match.
- Point terminal users at Claude Code, not at this model card.
Conclusion
Opus 4.5 is still a $5 / $25, 200k Anthropic snapshot, and it is no longer the top of the Claude stack. Read the overview, then move new work to Opus 4.6 unless you are pinned.
